This week has been a blurr but very very productive. Team Slice is kicking a**. Nina and Michael will run a tight ship here now they have helped me assemble this restaurant and have a similar sense of pride in keeping it in amazing shape. More good news: We got our alcohol license yesterday! Beer, wine and cocktails will be a-flowin starting this Friday. Spread the word that Slice WV is opening THIS WEEKEND! Slice has been living and breathing in New York City for four years. For me, it feels like a combination of just opening yesterday and having been open for ten years. It has consumed my life for the latter part of my 20s and now I’m 30 and we are opening Slice #2 in two weeks.</p> <p>I feel blessed and alive. Stress overcomes me every so often and I do cry and scream like a charged woman would (sorry DF) but when I get overly stressed and the heat on my face feels like molten lava, I think of my little adopted girl in the Philippines who I give $30/month to to keep out of poverty and my stress feels silly.</p> <p>I think we have fought the odds of 95% of restaurants closing after their first year and 85% of restaurants closing after their second year because of our increasingly efficient staff, our continuously creative marketing pushes and new programs that we continue to roll out. Restaurants and businesses fail because their passion fades. I think my passion for this business has grown every day since its birth.</p> <p>Since DF and I have been working with our hands to get Slice #2 open, while scrubbing, cleaning, hammering, painting, hauling, banging, lifting, pushing, this has been a real and true labor of love and my dedication to make this enterprise a success has grown with every nail pounded into the wall. I can’t wait for this restaurant in the West Village to open. It will be another magical day.</p> <p>It’s not necessarily the idea of opening a restaurant that excites me, it’s seeing something come to life from a simple idea to a real brick and mortar place where people come and go and eat and drink and talk and share moments. Building something that works from scratch gives me passion. This simple idea has now created jobs, it has added something different to the community that makes people happy. I’m excited to get to a point where my business is successful enough that we can start to really give back to our community, to society and to the world. For those of you who don’t know who Peter Max is, he is the originator of “Cosmic 60’s Art”, a creative display of colors, lines and symbols on canvas. He became close friends with The Beatles and was their inspiration to the album cover of “Yellow Submarine”. He sold millions of his unique posters in the 60’s and 70’s to students and people all over the world. To read more about him, go to PeterMax.com.</p> <p>The event at Peter Max’s studio for “Coalition For Healthy School Lunches” is always a hit.
