Landlords don't have to be pricks as it turns out

Radha and I met with our two landlords today for Slice Deuce. They are good looking, cool, 30 years old and own over 1000 apartments and storefronts in NYC. I mean, WHA????

They started off, one as a retail broker and the other in construction, bought a small building in the West Village, sold it, bought a huge building in the meatpacking, sold it and now they own over 1000 apartments and storefronts in one of the most expensive cities in the world. And they’re frigging 30! Good Lord. (Ladies, sorry, they’re both engaged and one is getting married this weekend and Radha and I are going to crash his wedding. Ha!) They did happen to buy the buildings at the best time in the city in the best areas before the areas got big. Hard work and luck always go hand in hand with success.

Honestly, good for them, in fact amazing for them, I am strangely really proud of them.

(Now, please be good landlords).

IT'S OFFICIAL!

SLICE #2 IS HAPPENING!!

The lease is signed, the deposit is down and all chips are in.

“Slice, the perfect food” is about to make West Villagers very very happy. Go and walk by the space on Hudson between Perry and Charles streets and start to envision the tastiest, healthiest pizza in the best neighborhood in New York City!

Wish us luck, spread the word and may this space be built up swiftly, may new employees be trained correctly, may our doors open without a hitch and may we find success with this new and amazing location.

Thanks to everyone for your continued support!

xoxo

A version of the Slice storefront in the West Village. It will have three doors instead of one, this is the first iteration. It’s a “Landmarked district” so there are only a few things we can do here.

Plumbers are ridiculous

So I met with a plumber today. He checked out the space, checked out the drawing plans and then said: “$8500”. To which I responded, “But I got another quote for $6500 and I thought you could beat it.” To which he responded, after a minute of pausing and “pretend calculating in his head”: “Ok”.

Why are people trying to pull a fast one over me? Don’t they realize I’m half Indian??

Contractors are ridiculous

So I’ve been going back and forth to and fro the space in the West Village and Slice on the UES. I met with another contractor today who gave me a “quote” off the top of his head, based on nothing but eyeballing the place. I mean, I get it, he’s been doing this for years but c’mon, I was NOT born yesterday. This dude tried to tell me that his fee will be $50,000 to buff the existing floors, build two tiny walls for the bathroom, move an existing walk-in, and put up a half-divider separating the kitchen and the main front of house. What he DOESN’T remember is that four years ago, he charged me $60,000 to GUT-RENOVATE my space on the upper east side and do EVERYTHING (not including plumbing, electrical and duct/hood installation and other stuff, but still!). Ah, silly old man with amnesia.

I am hiring my own plumber, electrician, designer (to make the place look unique and build a few things himself that will be really really cool), getting awesome furniture and fixtures, signage, lighting etc and so I was only asking him to build a few simple things. $50,000, seriously!

I am going to now have to hire my own millworkers too and guess what, I’m ok with that!
